Hello guys! I so missed writing new articles, but this month was surprisingly hectic and full of unforeseen difficulties, so unfortunately I didn't have the time to dedicate to my blog. But since this month was quite hectic I have so many things to tell you to the point that I wouldn't know where to start from. Anyways, I think I'll start from one of the most waited events of the year. Do you have any clue of what I am talking about? Well what if I give you an hint by mentioning the word Christmas? Well yes, it's that period of the year again where it's literally beginning to look a lot like Christmas as Michael Bublé would sing, and off course I couldn't miss to visit the long awaited opening of the Tuomaan Markkinat, the Helsinki Christmas Markets. This year the Christmas Markets were officially opened on 27/11 and exceptionally located in Kauppatori instead of Senaatintori, because of the street lightning renovations. Unfortunately I didn't make it to go on the actual opening day, since I was working over the weekend for the Black Friday and on Saturday I was super tired to go anywhere, that I gave up, but yesterday nobody could stop me! Straight after work me and my colleague Iryna went by metro to see the Tuomaan Markkinat. Reaching the place is very simple by transports. We took the metro and we got off at University of Helsinki metro station, but you can also take some trams like the 2 or the 4.
Before going to the Market, we went to admire the Christmas tree in Senaatintori.
Afterwards we headed off to the Christmas Markets by passing by Sofiankatu, that looked even more beautiful than usual with the Christmas lights. Once we crossed the road, we were straight in front of Kauppatori from where we could see all the lovely wooden kiosks that were waiting for us. Once inside the market we could really feel the Christmas atmosphere in the air, made of lights, smiling people, kids on the carousel, the smell of cinnamon, glögi and hot chocolate. At the main Christmas market you can find a wide range of Christmas gifts ideas such as handcrafted candles, Christmas balls, ceramics, Finnish delicacies, souvenirs, scarves and hats and much more. This year I had the feeling that there were more kiosks than usual, probably because the location is slightly bigger in comparison to Senaatintori. And this year the market has two divided sections: the traditional market in Kauppatori, and the so called ravintolapiha (restaurant yard) in Esplanadi, where you can find several kiosks with cafeterias, restaurants and bars and you can also listen to live music.
By the way last but not least: if you want to access the restaurants area, you will be asked to show the Covid-19 passport, so please don't forget to download it on your phone before you go there ;)
Were you wondering if I had something to eat there? To be precise a treat? Well, off course I had, here it is :P I really recommend you to pass by the Waffle kiosk (Kauppatori side) and get one. Mine was called Unelma with whipped cream and nutella, yummy! ;)

Un pomeriggio al Tuomaan Markkinat
Ciao ragazzi! Mi mancava tanto scrivere nuovi articoli, ma questo mese è stato piuttosto frenetico e pieno di contrattempi, quindi sfortunatamente non ho avuto tempo da dedicare al mio blog. Ma se sono stata assente, significa anche che sono successe così tante cose a tal punto che non saprei da dove cominciare a raccontarvi. Comunque, penso che inizierò a parlarvi di uno degli eventi più attesi dell'anno che si svolge a Helsinki. Avete idea di cosa sto parlando? E se vi dessi un suggerimento citando la parola Natale? Ebbene sì, è di nuovo quel periodo dell'anno in cui "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" come canterebbe Michael Bublé, e ovviamente non potevo non visitare la tanto attesa apertura del Tuomaan Markkinat, i Mercatini di Natale di Helsinki. Quest'anno i Mercatini di Natale sono stati ufficialmente aperti il 27/11 e collocati eccezionalmente a Kauppatori invece che a Senaatintori, per via dei lavori di ristrutturazione dell'illuminazione pubblica. Purtroppo non ce l'ho fatta ad andare proprio nel giorno dell'inaugurazione, dato che ho lavorato eccezionalmente durante tutto il fine settimana per il Black Friday, quindi sabato ero super stanca che ci ho rinunciato, ma ieri nessuno mi ha potuta fermare! Subito dopo il mio turno di lavoro io e la mia collega Iryna ci siamo dirette verso il Tuomaan Markkinat con la metro. Raggiungere il posto con i mezzi è molto semplice. Noi abbiamo preso la metropolitana e siamo scese alla stazione metro University of Helsinki, ma voi potete anche prendere diversi tram come il 2 o il 4. Prima di andare al Mercato, ci siamo fermate ad ammirare l'albero di Natale di Senaatintori. Successivamente ci siamo dirette verso i Mercatini passando per Sofiankatu, che sembrava ancora più bella del solito con le luci di Natale.
Una volta attraversata la strada, ci siamo trovate difronte a Kauppatori da dove potevamo vedere tutti i bei chioschi di legno che ci aspettavano. Una volta all'interno del mercatino si sentiva nell'aria la vera atmosfera natalizia, fatta di luci, gente sorridente e spensierata, bambini sulla carosello e profumo di cannella, glögi e cioccolata calda. Al principale mercatino di Natale potrete trovare una vasta gamma di idee regalo come candele artigianali, palle di Natale, ceramiche, prelibatezze finlandesi, souvenir, sciarpe e cappelli e molto altro. Quest'anno mi è sembrato che ci fossero più chioschi del solito, probabilmente perché la location è leggermente più grande rispetto a Senaatintori. E quest'anno il mercato ha due sezioni diverse: il mercatino di Kauppatori è il tradizionale mercatino di Natale, mentre quello di Esplanadi è il cosiddetto ravintolapiha (cortile dei ristoranti), dove si trovano diversi chioschi con caffetterie, ristoranti e bar da cui è possibile ascoltare anche la musica dal vivo.
A proposito, ultimo dettaglio da non sottovalutare: se volete accedere all'area ristorante, vi verrà chiesto di mostrare il green pass, quindi non dimenticate di scaricarlo sul vostro telefono prima di andarci ;)
Ah... Vi stavate chiedendo se avessi preso qualcosa da mangiare lì? Un dolcetto per essere precisi? Beh, ovviamente l'ho preso e vi consiglio vivamente di passare dal chiosco di Waffle (lato Kauppatori) e comprarne uno. Il mio si chiamava Unelma con panna e nutella. Gnam ;)
