ENG: Dear readers! Before starting writing abruptly about Finland, I wanted to explain the reasons why I decided to move to this fairytale country. Everything started in 2011. I was 17 and still attending high school in my hometown, Brindisi. To be honest I wasn't really happy at that time for several reasons, but especially because I've always thought that my city didn't suit me at all. One of the reasons was the typical southern italian mentality, which is quite narrow-minded.
Back in the days I was already a rock fan and in the summer 2011 I totally fell in love with a band, which changed my life forever: the Finnish band HIM. After a year, I moved to Rome to start the university and embrace a new path. Since I chose to study linguistic mediation, I thought that the three languages I was studying (English, German and Chinese) weren't enough, I started looking for a Finnish language course in Rome and after some weeks I found it. I started attending it straight away, even if I arrived a little bit later compared to the other students. My relationship with Finnish language at first was quite complicated. In fact Finnish is not an Indo-European, reason why studying it wasn't easy for me. But still, thanks to my determination and my love for HIM, I completed the three year course. At the end of the course I also won a scholarship to go to study Finnish in Helsinki, the Finnish capital. I didn't know what to expect, since at that time I still had never visited Finland, and right before the departure I was feeling pretty excited. My stay went really well, I met so many nice people, whom I'm still in contact with and I saw many beautiful places. Well yeah, it was definitely love at first sight!
Once I earned my bachelor degree, I decided to go back to Finland by applying for an internship through the "Erasmus plus". My very first attempt didn't succeed unfortunately, but the second time I tried, I got an internship in a Finnish middle school as a teacher assistant. I also organized an Italian course as an afternoon activity. In short, my second time in Finland was more than positive as well as the first time and, after a quite disappointing year in London to get my master's degree, I decided to return to Finland, but this time permanently. I started working as an au pair in a 100% Finnish family, which I now consider as my second family. After this au-pair experience, which lasted more than a year, I decided to stay. Now my Finnish has tremendously improved, I live on my own in one of the historical districts of Helsinki, I work in a very stimulating environment with great people, who I consider not just as colleagues but as my friends and I am very very happy with my life now.

Finlandia: il paese dove ho ritrovato me stessa e la mia felicità
ITA: Cari lettori! Prima di iniziare a scrivere ex abrupto sulla Finlandia, volevo spiegare i motivi che mi hanno portata a venire a vivere in questo paese dall'atmosfera fiabesca. Tutto iniziò nel lontano 2011. Avevo 17 anni e frequentavo ancora il liceo classico nella mia città natale, Brindisi. Devo essere sincera, quel periodo non è stato uno dei migliori per svariati motivi, ma soprattutto perché ho sempre pensato che la mia città non facesse per me. Uno dei motivi principali era la mentalità tipica del sud, con le vedute un po' ristrette. All'epoca ero già da tempo una fan del rock, e nell'estate del 2011 mi appassionai a un gruppo che mi ha cambiato la vita per sempre: i finlandesi HIM. L'anno dopo mi trasferii a Roma per cominciare l'università e intraprendere un percorso tutto nuovo. Poiché mi scrissi alla facoltà di mediazione linguistica, pensavo che le tre lingue che stavo già studiando (inglese, tedesco e cinese per intenderci) non fossero abbastanza, per cui decisi di mettermi a cercare un corso di finlandese con sede a Roma. Dopo un po' di tempo lo trovai e iniziai a frequentarlo sin da subito, anche se ero arrivata in ritardo rispetto agli altri studenti. La mia relazione con la lingua finlandese non fu per niente facile all'inizio... Dovete sapere che il finlandese non è una lingua che fa parte del ceppo indo-europeo, proprio per questo non è stato affatto semplice. Però, con tanta tanta forza di volontà e l'amore per gli HIM sono riuscita a completare il corso che è durato tre anni. Alla fine del corso, mi sono anche aggiudicata una borsa di studio per andare a frequentare un corso intensivo di due settimane nella capitale finlandese, Helsinki. Non sapevo cosa mi aspettasse, perché non avevo ancora visitato la Finlandia, ma prima della partenza ricordo che ero molto molto emozionata e in ansia. La permanenza è andata benissimo, ho conosciuto bellissime persone con cui sono ancora in contatto e ho visto dei posti bellissimi. Insomma sì, è stato amore a prima vista.
Dopo aver preso la laurea triennale, decisi di fare domanda per fare un tirocinio tramite l' "Erasmus plus", e dopo il mio primo tentativo andato male, riprovai un'altra volta e lo ottenni. Venni presa in una scuola media finlandese in qualità di assistente agli insegnanti. Organizzai anche un corso di italiano come attività pomeridiana. Insomma anche la mia seconda volta in Finlandia è stata molto più che positiva e, in seguito a un anno un po' deludente a Londra per conseguire il master, decisi di ritornare in Finlandia, ma questa volta a tempo indeterminato. Ho iniziato a lavorare come ragazza alla pari presso una famiglia 100% finlandese, che adesso considero come la mia seconda famiglia e, dopo questa esperienza durata più di un anno, ho deciso di restare.
Ora il mio finlandese è migliorato tantissimo, abito da sola in uno dei quartieri storici e centrali di Helsinki, lavoro in un ambiente molto stimolante e con persone fantastiche, che non considero solo semplici colleghi ma miei amici e sono molto soddisfatta della mia vita adesso.
Ah...P.S.: sono riuscita a incontrare anche il mio idolo, Ville Valo, il leader degli HIM, la mia band preferita. Se non fosse stato per lui e la sua band non avrei mai fatto tutto questo. Eccovi i selfie!
