Hello guys! I was so looking forward to write you again to tell you about a new place I discovered just last weekend. Since I'm a big fan of traditional Finnish cafeterias and restaurants, last Sunday I was looking for a new place where to have lunch with treat included (off course, you know me already :P). So this new place that I found is called Cafe Monami and is located in Rastila, east Helsinki. Sounds a bit far, uh? Yeah, it's true, but no worries, it's actually very simple to reach it especially by
metro. The restaurant/cafeteria is inside a very beautiful and big wooden house painted in water green and white. That house is actually a mansion called Rastilan Kartano. When you enter the building, it feels like being in a very cozy but at the same time in a very elegant nordic house. The ground floor, where the actual restaurant is, has around 3 main rooms, where its guests can seat and enjoy their meal. Me and my friend Helena took the deal of the day, which included a soup+ a slice of cake. The soup was a pork soup with potatoes spiced with curry, and for dessert we took a very delicious orange chocolate cake. The prices were very fair, especially the special deals and menus. Also the staff was particularly nice and friendly. We sat in the main room where there was an old fireplace and a very cozy atmosphere, most likely that used to be the living room of the mansion.
Although Cafe Monami was opened just in 2017, its building, the Rastilan kartano, is quite an old manor. It was built around the middle of 1850 as the new main building of the Rassböle farm. The exact year of construction is unknown. The manor was built by August Melan, a naval officer who owned the farm at that time. The Rastböle farm covered a total area of 250.73 hectares and was the second largest farm in Vuosaari, after the Nordsön equestrian farm. Over the years, Rastila Manor has been been owned by several tenants, such as the agronomist Colerus and the Ahlqvist family, who took good care of it, by planning and carrying out renovation and repair works, such as the construction of terraces, verandas, the construction of separate “observation windows” and the renovation of the natural stone plinth. Later in 1951 the Ahlqvist family sold the manor to the city of Helsinki, which employed it as a youth hostel, while the outdoor areas served as a camping area.
By the way the color of the villa has changed from time to time, but only in the late 1940s it was painted in water green and white, the current colors.

Rastilan Kartano & Cafe Monami
Ciao ragazzi! Non vedevo l'ora di scrivervi per parlarvi di un nuovo posto che ho scoperto proprio lo scorso fine settimana. Dato che sono una grande fan di caffetterie e ristoranti tradizionali finlandesi, domenica scorsa stavo cercando un nuovo posto dove pranzare con dolciumi inclusi (ovviamente... mi conoscete già bene :P). Ho trovato il Cafe Monami che si trova a Rastila, a est di Helsinki. Suona un po' lontano, eh? Sì, è vero, ma non preoccupatevi, in realtà raggiungerlo è molto semplice, specialmente se prendete la metro. Il ristorante/caffetteria si trova all'interno di una bellissima e grande villa in legno dipinta di verde acqua e bianco. Essa è in realtà la Rastilan Kartano. Appena si entra nell'edificio sembra di essere in un'accogliente casa nordica, allo stesso tempo molto elegante. Il piano terra, punto in cui si trova il ristorante, ha circa 3 sale principali, dove i suoi ospiti possono sedersi e gustare il loro pasto. Io e la mia amica Helena abbiamo preso l'offerta del giorno che comprendeva un zuppa + una fetta di torta: la zuppa era a base di maiale e patate con una salsa speziata al curry e per dessert una deliziosa torta al cioccolato all'arancia. I prezzi erano molto onesti, soprattutto le offerte speciali e i menu. Anche il personale era particolarmente gentile e amichevole. Ci siamo sedute nella sala principale dove c'era un vecchio camino e un'atmosfera rilassante, molto probabilmente in passato quella stanza era il soggiorno della villa.
Nonostante Cafe Monami sia stato aperto solo nel 2017, il suo edificio, Rastilan kartano, è un maniero piuttosto antico. Fu costruito intorno alla metà del 1850 come nuova villa principale della fattoria di Rastböle. L'anno esatto di costruzione è sconosciuto. Il maniero fu costruito da August Melan, un ufficiale di marina che all'epoca era il proprietario della fattoria. La fattoria Rastböle copriva una superficie totale di 250,73 ettari ed era la seconda fattoria più grande di Vuosaari, dopo la fattoria equestre Nordsön. Nel corso degli anni, la Rastilan Kartano è stata di proprietà di diverse famiglie, come per esempio l'agronomo Colerus e la famiglia Ahlqvist, che hanno progettato e realizzato lavori di ristrutturazione e riparazione, come la costruzione delle terrazze e delle verande, la realizzazione di “finestre di osservazione” e il ripristino del plinto in pietra. Successivamente la tenuta fu venduta dagli Ahlqvist alla città di Helsinki nel 1951, che la rese ostello della gioventù, mentre le aree all'aperto fungevano da campeggio. Il colore della villa non è stato sempre lo stesso, ma solo alla fine degli '40 è stato dipinto di verde acqua e bianco.
